Recreation Trail Gets Needed Trimming

Kyle Leaonard - Trails Commission Chair on June 27, 2025

When you head out on the Lamoni Recreational Trail in the coming weeks you may notice, specifically on the East end, some major usage improvements!  That’s because the Eastern half of the Trail got a much needed trimming!

As spring came this year the growth along and above the Lamoni Recreational Trail began to become more noticeable and a nuisance.  Normally, the Trail trimming is an event that takes place every few years in the fall, cutting back overgrowth when trees and plants begin to go dormant for the season and can come back in the spring with fresh growth, covering up the trimmed limbs.  This year, the methods historically used to trim the trail were no longer available and thus finding a new solution became a major discussion among the Trail Commissioners.  After several discussions and ideas, the Trails Commission recommended having local business, TNT Builders, do an aggressive cut back along the Trail.  After the City Council approved this, the Eastern portion of the Trail was closed to users and TNT Builders began trimming.  The whole cut-back took about a week, as the Trail on this portion of the Trail was heavily overgrown.  The Eastern portion of the Trail reopened for use last Friday afternoon.

A huge thank you to TNT Builders for their work on clearing the Trail.  An additional thank you to Public Works who swept the debris from the Trail once TNT Builders were done cutting back allowing for the Trail to reopen.
