Bishop Brings Experience to Lamoni Hy-Vee

Gary Rees on May 07, 2026

Lamoni welcomes Ray Bishop as the new store manager for Hy-Vee. In addition to the Lamoni location, he oversees the Leon Hy-Vee. Throughout his career, Bishop has held a range of roles in several communities all within the Hy-Vee organization.

He began his HyVee career at the Corydon store at age 16. After high school, he completed two years of missionary service in Brazil and later earned an associate degree from Indian Hills Community College working for Hy-Vee throughout his education.

In 1998, Bishop took on his first management role as a service manager in Corydon where he also functioned as the scanning coordinator. He later moved to Centerville to continue as a service manager. After a short time in Kirksville, Missouri, he relocated to Shenandoah, Iowa, serving as store manager for four years. He then transferred to Leon where he spent 16 years as the assistant manager. In 2020, he became the store manager in Osceola, a position he held until arriving in Lamoni on April 20.

“I’m very familiar with Lamoni and look forward to being part of the community,” Bishop said. “I’m also looking forward to getting to know my customers.” He expects to continue HyVee’s commitment to local organizations.

Bishop describes the Lamoni store as well-run with a strong team already in place. He values working alongside these employees already and is committed to maintaining a friendly environment for both staff and shoppers. He enjoys mentoring employees and takes pride in seeing them grow and advance within the company.

Bishop and his wife, Valerie, have been married since 1996 and have five sons. Valerie is a graduate of Graceland University and teaches in the Title 1 Reading program at Clark Elementary School in Osceola. With five boys, it is not hard to imagine that his major volunteer activities have involved coaching various youth sports.

“I’ve spent my entire career with Hy-Vee,” Bishop said. “It’s a solid place to work that treats its employees and customers well, and that’s made it easy to stay all these years.” He expects his experience in Lamoni to be no different.
