Lamoni City Hall Steps Up

Lamoni recently completed a project to significantly improve safety and accessibility to City Hall by replacing the outdated front entrance stoop with a larger, more functional structure. The project was made possible by a grant from the South-Central Iowa Community Foundation’s (SCICF) Lamoni Freedom Fund.

“SCICF has been a long-time Lamoni partner with these kinds of projects, and this is a prime example of what that partnership means to Lamoni,” said City Administrator/Clerk Barb Stuck. “The entrance has been a problem for quite some time, and we appreciate that with SCICF’s contribution we no longer have to be concerned with this issue.”
The original half-moon-shaped stoop was small, creating a potential hazard for visitors, particularly those with mobility issues. The new, deeper, and wider step dramatically enhances safety and accessibility at the municipal building.
"Thanks to all involved for the new approach to City Hall, and I remember commenting that the front steps were a hazard." Lamoni resident Lou Clothier said.  "Both entrances can now accommodate walkers and wheelchairs, and the front entrance is especially classy."

TNT Builders was contracted for the replacement. Local Lamoni business Rollins Welding, led by Steve Rollins, constructed a custom handrail that was installed the weekend prior to Thanksgiving.
“This will greatly enhance the safety of visitors to City Hall,” added Mayor Doug Foster.
