Lamoni Trails Receives Paint Iowa Beautiful Grant
Kyle Leaonard - Trails Commission Chair on June 27, 2025
In February 2025 the Lamoni Trails Commission submitted a grant application to the Paint Iowa Beautiful Grant. This grant, through a partnership with Diamond Vogel Paint of Orange City, Iowa, provides free paint to a wide variety of public service and community betterment projects throughout Iowa. Thousands of gallons of paint have been donated to community groups through the Paint Iowa Beautiful program.
The Lamoni Trails Commission is excited to announce that we received confirmation from Keep Iowa Beautiful that our grant application was approved! As many Trial users know, there are a few blind corners (sharp turns where line of sight around is difficult or nonexistent). To increase safety for pedestrian and bike traffic on the trail the Trails Commission submitted an application for this grant to acquire paint to paint a centerline at these corners. The goal with painting the center lines at these blind corners is to provide a visual indicator to trail users to stay to the right as they go around the corners. This simple act, staying to the right as rounding the corners, can help avoid potential collisions or accidents.
A few weeks ago, the Commission acquired the paint (a water-based white traffic paint) from the Diamond Vogel location at 105 SW 63rd St in Des Moines. After discussions, TNT Builders was selected to apply the centerline paint at the corners along the Trail. This past Friday, June 20, TNT Builders applied the paint, making a very noticeable improvement for the safety of Trail users! A major thank you to Paint Iowa Beautiful and Diamond Vogel for partnering to provide the paint for this project! An additional thank you to TNT Builders for taking the time to apply the paint at the corners along the entirety of the Trail!
